I’d been meaning to check out F&D Kitchen & Bar ever since they opened over a year and a half ago. Unfortunately I don’t head up to the Lake Mary area often, so I hadn’t gotten around to it. So I was very excited to be invited to check them out last night.
Their philosophy is careful thought and emphasis on creating an exceptional experience for their guests. It’s all about quality. Each ingredient made a journey before it reached the table. It is this journey, filled with dedication and passion of the team, that allow them to share their stories with each other as they should be shared: over a good meal with a good drink. They are committed to supporting Florida fishermen, farmers and brewers. They try to serve only the best local fare, including coastal caught seafood, grass-fed beef, farm-raised poultry and hand crafted beers and cocktails.
I started the evening out with one of their craft cocktails. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and she steered me towards the Strawberry Fields. It had vodka, elderflower, strawberry, and lemon. It was just the right amount of sweet with a tiny bit of tart at the end.
One of my favorite things about being invited to media events is the ability to try out multiple items on the menu. They started the meal with a chefs board of meats and cheese, burrata salad, fried green tomatoes, and pork belly.
For my entree I decided to go with their seasonal pasta with was pumpkin pasta with roasted squash and ricotta. It was amazing! One of my tablemates had the Seared Florida Grouper and let me try a bite – yum yum yum. I love seafood but I’m always a bit leery to order it at a restaurant, but they did an amazing job with the grouper.
Dessert was layers of chocolate cake filled with housemade mango and strawberry ice cream. I really didn’t have much room left at this point, but when they set something this amazing in front of you… you just gotta.
So if you are looking for some amazing farm to table food in Lake Mary, I definitely recommend checking out F&D Kitchen & Bar. F&D is open every day for lunch and dinner, plus they have a great brunch selection on Sundays. And of course you can always pop into the bar for one of their craft cocktails. If Mexican food is more your speed, they are opening the F&D Cantina nearby later this year.
