This year when it came time to decorate for Halloween I had two problems:
1. I don’t get any trick-or-treaters and 2. I love the orange and blue Florida Gators stuff I have up. What is a girl to do? I started out by just doing a little bit of decorating inside. But then on a random trip to Home Depot with my mom I had a lightbulb moment and knew exactly what I needed to do. I would combine my my love of the Gators and Halloween and decorate for both. How you might ask? Well first lets start with a little DIY project.
I needed a Florida Gators pennant flag for this grand idea I had. I didn’t one one, but I did have a Gator blue pennant flag that I’d bought at Hobby Lobby awhile back for 77 cents. I figured that eventually I would find SOMETHING to do with it. And guess what? I did.
I spent a little time in Cricut design studio and created a design to go on my pennant. In less than 30 minutes I had it designed, cut out, and ready to go on the pennant. If you are going to attempt this be VERY careful as you need high heat for ironing on the design but felt can only take so much direct heat from the iron. Play it safe and just turn the iron down and take a little more time attaching it. I did and it turned out great.
I felt like it needed a little orange, so I used some heat bond to attach some orange ribbon that I already had. It was quick and easy, but added that little pop of color that I felt it needed.
So what was this pennant for you ask? For my skeleton Gator fan of course! While out shopping I found a poseable FULL SIZED skeleton, with light up eyes, on sale for 50% off. I just had to buy him. Using the pennant I just made and some Gator gear I already have (I might have a little bit) I was able to give my skeleton Gator fan just the look I was going for.
I put him on one of the chairs on my front porch and he goes wonderfully with the DIY Gator flamingos, DIY Gator wreath, and my new Gator flag. I had found a fun way to keep my football stuff out AND decorate for Halloween. Since football season runs until at least the end of November I will probably be leaving him out until it is time to start decorating for Christmas.
