The Comeback Tour: Week 9 – The One with the Migraine

I started off this week by heading back to Ten10 Run Club for the first time in what seemed like forever. I started going to Ten10 Run Club back when they got started, but between last years injuries and my favorite running buddy moving to the left coast I hadn’t been in awhile. This week I made plans to go and meet up with my friend Kelly. It was great!

It had rained most of the day so it was a little cooler than it had been, but boy was it muggy. I am SO ready for fall! It was just a short run, but I got another mile PR and I got to enjoy some tasty beer while catching up with a friend. It was definitely a good way to get the week started.

The rest of my week was a little screwy due to my work schedule, so I planned to run in the mornings on the weekend. One plus to this plan was that it was FINALLY going to get down into the 60s overnight. Hooray for a little fall weather! Unfortunately when my alarm went off Saturday I woke to a killer headache. I took some drugs, reset the alarm, and crawled back into bed. When I woke up the second time the headache was still there but I got up to run anyway.

The weather was BEAUTIFUL and for the first time in what seemed like forever I broke the 11 minute per mile mark. I was SO excited! Unfortunately after that first mile my head put the breaks on thing. Every time my feet hit the pavement while running it was KILLING my head. So I just walked the rest of the way home. Forward is a pace right!

I decided to use my excitement from my mile PR to power through the day as I had a lot on my to-do list. I did a couple things around the house and then went out to run some errands. But my head had other plans and by the time I got home the headache had turned into a full blown migraine. So not cool. I took my strong migraine meds and crawled back into bed. Two hours later I’d barely slept and the headache was worse, so I went for dose number two. It didn’t help either.

My head just kept getting worse and nothing was helping. After 18 hours of dealing with the pain, ice pack and heating pads, crying, getting sick, and losing some of the sight in my right eye I finally just crawled into bed – even my Gators being tied with LSU couldn’t keep me up. I just couldn’t take it anymore.

I woke up Sunday morning and the migraine was gone, but I felt like I’d been hit by a mack truck. Needless to say I didn’t go for my run as I had planned. Sometimes you just have to call it and take the time to recover. I don’t have time to be dealing with migraines this week so I spent the day relaxing and getting a few more things scratched off the to-do list. Hopefully this week running will go a little better!

Oh man, I feel you. Dealing with a bit of the same this week. I hope you feel better soon. I know I hate it when I try to get out there and be active and something like this happens. Feel better!
