Target Customer Service

So a couple of weeks ago I had a plastic wrap fiasco while trying to cook something in the microwave. I used my target brand “up & up plastic wrap” to cover something in a glass dish. I’ve done this plenty of times before and not had an issue… until that night. It sounded like my food was making more noise than normal, but I didn’t worry about it. Then the buzzer went off and I opened the microwave door. Holy spaghetti sauce batman! It was everywhere! But how you ask, your food was covered in plastic wrap. Well it WAS. The plastic wrap and melted. Yes, melted… into/onto my food and onto the sides of the glass dish. It was horrible. When I tried to pull it off the sides of the dish it was like bubble gum – sticky and stringy. I ended up having to leave the dish on the counter to cool before I could get it off the dish. So not cool. I was pissed and hungry.

I told my mom about it a couple days later and she told me to write to Target and complain. At the very least I should let them know what happened. So on Aprill 11 I used their online form and made a complaint about the product. Later that day I got a response, but it was not the response I had hoped for:

Dear Meghan,

Hmm… ok. So I just left it at that. If they don’t care about their plastic wrap melting in the microwave when it’s supposed to be able to be used in the microwave, so be it. Would I stop shopping at Target? Nope. Will I buy that plastic wrap again? No way!

Then today I get an envelope from Target. It was very thing, so I assumed that it was just a hard copy of the email that I had gotten previously. But when I opened it I was pleasantly surprised. My letter was from Cheryl, the same customer service rep as before, and was a bit more promising:

Dear Meghan,

Thanks again for sharing your experience with us. Please accept my apologies for any disappointment.

We use your feedback to help us make our stores, merchandise and services even better for every guest. I’ve enclosed this Target coupon [which was for $3 off any purchase] because we want you to come back for a better experience. With your comments in mind, we’ll keep working to improve our service commitment to you.

We look forward to serving you again soon at Target.

Sincerely,

Cheryl

Cool huh? I like that they did actually do something about my complaint. I also like that they didn’t just send me a coupon for a free roll of plastic wrap, because I’m not going to get it again even if it is free.

So a great big high-five goes out to Cheryl in Target Guest Relations for being awesome and actually addressing my complaint 🙂 Now if you will excuse me, I need to run to Target!
