The No Kid Hungry campaign works to shine a national spotlight on the crisis of child hunger in America, creating a powerful movement of individuals committed to bold action. They build partnerships that enlist influential individuals in the cause and advocate policy changes needed to achieve our goals. They connect kids in need with nutritious food and teaches their families how to cook healthy, affordable meals. The campaign also engages the public to make ending child hunger a national priority.
But where do kids eat when school is out?
The beginning of summer is an exciting time for most kids, looking forward to a summer of celebration with block parties, vacations, and picnics. But for many kids, summer can be the hungriest time of year.
For kids who rely on meals at school during the year, summer can bring about a time of uncertainty around where their next meal is coming from. No Kid Hungry is already hard at work connecting kids across the country with the food they need to succeed when school’s out. They recruit new summer meals sites, reach out to low-income families, and make grants to support the start-up, operation and expansion of summer meals programs.
