Or is it running geek? I don’t know, either way, that’s me!
My very first race was the Run Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon. I loved it! Unfortunately they are pretty pricey (I can almost pay for 2 other 1/2 marathons for what it would cost for 1 Run Disney event), so I haven’t done any recently. But I still get excited about the events and follow Run Disney. It is kinda hard not to when you live in the same town as the mouse house.
One of the neat things that Run Disney does are Meetups before the races. They post about them on the Disney Parks Blog and you have to RSVP (pretty much as soon as they post it) in order to have a chance to attend. The Meetup usually includes running (of course), time in one of the parks, food, and special celebrity guests. Sounds like fun right?
So when I happened to see a post about a Wine and Dine 1/2 Meetup I immediately sent in my RSVP. Less than 20 minutes later they posted that they weren’t accepting any more RSVPs and a list of people who were picked to go would be posted within the next two hours. It was the longest two hours ever! I was super excited when a friend of my mine, who also RSVP’d, posted on Facebook around 5:30 that BOTH of us were chosen to go! Woo hoo! And then I found out that another running buddy is also going!
I can’t believe I get to go!
One of the coolest things about this Meetup is that it is the first one to be done at night. The Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon is run at night and ends at Epcot (due to the Food & Wine festival), so they are doing the meetup at night as well. I can’t wait to actually run in my glow in the dark running shoes at night!
This Meetup will start with a “special viewing of IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, the nightly laser, light and fireworks show. After that, selected participants will get to taste and learn about some of the extraordinary cuisine and wines that are part of the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival, hear from some Olympic endurance runners and get some expert advice on safely running at night. Then, selected participants will get to put some of that nighttime running knowledge to work during a starlit fun run “around the world” at Epcot well after the park closes. And of course there will be a few magical surprises throughout the night.” How cool does that sound??
So yeah, I’m a great big running dork/geek and I’m super excited to go to this Meetup with my friends 🙂
I love seeing everyone’s outfits when they do the RunDisney marathons. People really get into it and come up with creative ideas while still wearing something “runnable”. That meetup sounds like a lot of fun!
