I was originally scheduled to visit Hotel Cabana Clearwater Beach in September for a little girls getaway. Unfortunately Hurricane Irma showed up and ruined our plans. It took a little while but I was finally able to reschedule our getaway AND it was for the weekend of Clearwater Beach Uncorked.
Hotel Cabana was a little less than a mile from Clearwater Beach Uncorked, which was great with all the yummy wine and cocktails we’d be enjoying. It also meant we were within walking distance of restaurants, bars, shops, and of course, the beach.
When we arrived on Friday night it was super easy to get our key and get checked in for the weekend. We had a 1 bedroom suite the overlooked the pool. You could even see the ocean between the buildings across the street. Originally built in 1947 as a single story building and named Coca Cabana, the hotel has always been a haven for laid-back sun lovers to enjoy the beach in a warm and welcoming environment. When the hotel was recently renovated they kept a lot of that old school style and charm, including the room keys. Yes, the rooms had actual keys.
We had plenty of space for the weekend and definitely could have fit another two people in there with no problem thanks to the pull out couch. But since it was just two of us it also meant we had plenty of room to relax.
The bathroom was small, but updated with all the modern amenities that you might want. The suite also had 2 tvs, a kitchenette, and complimentary wi-fi. Each morning I would follow my nose to fresh brewed coffee that was served poolside. If you don’t want to head out in the morning you can request a coffee maker for your room.
The one bedroom suite would be perfect for a girls weekend. I love my fancy resorts with multiple pools and restaurants, but there is something so “Florida” about a small beachside hotel. I grew up in Daytona where my grandparents would come down every year and stay in the same efficiency motel on the beach. This was like a modern version with all the vintage charm that I love. I can open my room with a real key and then use the wi-fi – best of both worlds!
Even though we didn’t go in the pool this trip, the pool area was wonderful. There were plenty of lounge chairs, tables, and even a comfy conversation area. They’d also put up a lot of lights for the holidays which made things look even more magical at night.
The staff at Hotel Cabana was stellar. With it being a small property the staff wasn’t big, but there was always someone around when you needed something. They don’t automatically clean your room on short stays, but you can always request clean towels and linens. They even give you a laundry hamper that you can leave outside with the items you’d like replace. A wonderful green practice that also keeps people out of your room.
We are very lucky that even in December we have wonderful beach weather in Florida. Sunshiney days and cooler nights make December the perfect time, in my mind, to visit the beach. We were super busy with Clearwater Beach Uncorked, but I’ll definitely be enjoying the beach and the pool on my next visit back.
