The Finger Fiasco

Yesterday was a good day. I spent the day throwing the baby shower for my friends. It went really well (even though I was a complete spacecase and forgot a bunch of stuff) and everyone, especially mom and dad, had a good time. I got home, unloaded all the stuff from the car, and took the dog out… that is where everything went downhill. I took the pup out to potty and, long story short, she went after an evil cat and her leash got wrapped around my left index finger. I could have sworn the end of my finger came off. Within seconds it was blood red, then purple. I took the dog back inside and stuck my hand in the ice bucket in the freezer. I just didn’t know what else to do. The pup knew she hurt me because she hid in the bedroom and I hadn’t even yelled at her. I was in too much pain to hell. After about 10 minutes I got ahold of my mom and she suggested going to the ER. Thankfully there is a small hospital less then a mile from my apartment.

I got to the ER and there was only one other family in the waiting room. Within about 10 minutes I was checked and in a room waiting for the doctor. A nurse came in and after she asked what happened she had to check the blood flow in my finger. Oh. My. God. It hurt so bad. The doctor came in a little while later and… well… he pretty much laughed at me. Thankfully at this hospital they do a ‘medical screening’ first. Pretty much they decide if it’s really a medical emergency and if you really need to see a doctor. If it’s not a medical emergency, you have the option to say you don’t want to see the doctor. After speaking with him for a few minutes I realized that there wasn’t anything they could do with me. So I told them I didn’t want to see the doctor, so I wasn’t charged for the ER visit. And the shocking thing – I was in and out of there in less than 45 minutes. Pretty much the doctor said it was like if I had hit my finger with a hammer, it was just going to get better on my own. Could be a couple days, could be a couple weeks. I’m just ready for the pain to stop.

So that was my exciting Saturday night. Want to see my finger? It looks like it’s wearing a red hat!
