Restaurant Review: Dos Caminos

During our recent trip to Fort Lauderdale Laura and I had the opportunity to dine at Dos Caminos in the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach. I am usually a little apprehensive about restaurants in hotels because they tend to be a bit pricey and not worth the money. I did some research ahead of time and found out that Dos Caminos is a chain with locations in NYC, Atlantic City, and Vegas as well. Interesting. I love Mexican food (bring on the tacos) so I was willing to give it a try.

We had a 1:30 pm reservation which gave us plenty of time to enjoy our meal before our 3:30 pm spa appointments. When we first walked in I didn’t think the place was very big. When you enter from inside the hotel you start out in the bar, but behind it is a huge restaurant complete with outdoor seating.

After looking over the menu both Laura and I decided to go with the tacos. You get three per order, served on warm hand made corn tortillas with a trio of salsas and midnight rice & beans deluxe. Laura had the Mar y Tierra tacos (grilled marinated skirt steak, tecate battered rock shrimp, sriracha aioli, bacon guacamole) and I had the Pescado tacos (grilled mahi-mahi, spicy slaw, smoked chile aioli, guacamole, whole wheat tortillas). Our meals came out and we were both impressed with the amount of food. Before we could even figured out where to start the waitress came over with a HUGE bowl of housemade guacamole and chips. I felt a little bad because Laura doesn’t eat guac, but then she brought out the trio of salsa that went along with it. All of the food was amazing!

I love Mexican food, but I always worry about it being too spicy (I’m a bit of a wuss). There was just the perfect amount of spice in everything we had. Even the trio of salsas had something for everyone. The prices were a little on the high side for lunch ($17 & $19 for the tacos), but it was well worth it. The quality and quantity of food definitely made up for the steeper price tag.

Just when we thought we were done and going to have to be rolled back to our room, our wonderful waitress came out with birthday flan. Ho-ly crap! Both Laura and I love flan, so our eyes just lit up when she set the beautifully decorated plate on our table. We were both full but there was no way that amazing dessert was going to waste. We ate every last bite of that flan and it was amazing. SO worth the full belly!

If you are ever in the Fort Lauderdale area, or any where else that has one, you should definitely check out Dos Caminos. It was a nice change of pace and the fact that it was IN our hotel made it even better. Thanks for a great “birthday lunch!”

*Disclosure: We were comped our lunch at Dos Caminos. All opinions are my own. First photo in this post came from the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach website.

Alex and I had our 1st anniversary dinner at the Dos Caminos at the Harrah’s in Atlantic City. It was a little pricey but the food was incredible. We told them it was our anniversary when we made our reservation and they hooked us up with a great table and our server even told us happy anniversary when we arrived. We really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, would definitely go back. Glad you enjoyed your experience as well! 🙂
