Man has October been a tasty month! A couple weeks ago I attended the Oktoberfest Beer Dinner at Paddlefish. Paddlefish has been doing wine dinners for awhile now and decided to switch things up this month and do a beer dinner. The Paddlefish chefs worked directly with Sailfish Brewing Company to come up with a menu for the event. Each dish was created to specifically match the accompanying beer from Sailfish. And if that wasn’t reason enough to attend, Sailfish even brewed a special beer just for the event.
Sailfish Brewing Company is located in Ft. Pierce and opened its doors April 6th, 2013 as the first brewery on the Treasure Coast. With the support of the community they have grown from a 1-1/2 barrel brew house to a new location with a 20 barrel brew house in the center of downtown Fort Pierce.
The night started with a full pint of Billfish Pils and a lobster roll. This was the perfect way to get the night started. As we enjoyed these we were introduced to the GM from Sailfish Brewing who was going to lead us through the tastings. You could tell from the very start that Taylor loved beer and loved her job – two things that made her the perfect fit to lead the evening ahead.
As the evening went on there were three more courses and a dessert, all paired with beers from Sailfish Brewing. The main course was a slow cooked veal brisket that was served with a coffee and cardamom infused porter. This beer was made especially for this event. We were the first ones to try this beer other than the brewer! Now the only place you can get it is at the Sailfish tasting room… and thats if there is any left. This stuff was amazing! I can tell you that I wasn’t the only one letting Taylor know that they needed to keep making this beer – it was THAT good.
At the end of the evening I left with a full belly, a new appreciation for this amazing line of Florida beers, and some Sailfish swag. Thankfully they will be doing another beer dinner in January, so make sure to keep an eye on the Paddlefish website and facebook page for more details. I will definitely be signing up for the next one!
