One of the things I love most about running is all the new places it takes me for races. They may not be far away, but they always give me the opportunity to check out spots I may not have otherwise thought about visiting. Since a regular week long vacation really isn’t in the cards for me right now, I’ve been trying to take advantage of the races I have on my schedule by creating some small Runcations. The next Runcation I have scheduled is to Amelia Island for the Zooma 1/2 Marathon. Zooma is a women’s race series that is run by women and I’m very lucky to be an ambassador for them this year, so this race is a big deal in many ways.
For my Runcation to Amelia Island I am taking my mom along because we will be staying at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort! The Omni is right up the road from the race start and is the perfect place for a short (or long) weekend getaway. My mom isn’t a runner but there are plenty of things to keep her busy while I’m off being a run-dork.
Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort is nestled on 1,350 acres at the tip of a barrier island just off the Northeast Florida coast. Enjoy luxurious oceanfront accommodations, world-class resort pools, championship golf, full-service spa, endless dining options, and family-friendly activities.
Your experience begins as soon as you walk into the new lobby with sweeping panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean (did I mention the resort just underwent a $85 million renovation??). Unparalleled ocean views and spacious accommodations are available in all 404 rooms. Relax on the largest multi-tiered pool deck in northeast Florida, featuring an adults-only infinity edge pool, a 10,000-square-foot family-friendly pool, Splash Park water playground for the kids, two hot tubs, and oversized fire pits.
The Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort gives you plenty of options to keep active or just relax while you are there. We are planning to check in early (and check out late) in order to take advantage of as many of these things as we can.
