As more and more breweries have been popping up around the Central Florida area they have been adding all kinds of events to draw people in. Fitness and beer have become quite the paring when it comes to these events. First they started run clubs, then yoga on the weekends, and now full on fitness classes. What better way to get people motivated to work out than by offering them a beer afterwards.
Last week I decided to check out one of the most recent additions – PiYo & Pints at Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company. I hadn’t had a chance to check out Ivanhoe Park Brewing yet and I’d always wanted to try a PiYo class, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do both. For just $10 you got an hour long PiYo class and a pint of Ivanhoe Park’s beer afterwards.
The night of the class the weather had been a bit sketchy (hello summer in Florida), so it ended up scaring people off. Our group ended up being 6 people which I felt was perfect. Only 5 other people to see me potentially fall on my face. Ivanhoe Park has a wonderful covered patio, so they moved all the tables out of the way and held the class there.
The class was lead by Melyssa with a WHY, a fairly new fitness instructor, that I absolutely loved. She was peppy and motivating, but not so much so that she was irritating. All during the class she would walk everyone through the sections slowly so you could get a handle on things first. I loved this since I haven’t taken a lot of classes and had never been to PiYo. It made me feel a bit more comfortable about things before jumping right in.
This class kicked my butt! I think it was a combo of babying my back and being a bit more out of shape than I’d like to admit. Spoiler alert: I never once fell on my head! I lost my balance a few times and had to take a few breaks, but I stuck it out until the end. I definitely earned that beer! I enjoyed the class enough that combined with my new found love of Melyssa with a WHY, I’d definitely give this class another chance. Once I’ve recovered from the first one that is!
Want to check out a class for yourself? Check in with your favorite breweries on Facebook and see what they have available. And once you find a teacher you like, follow them as well. They may be teaching at other breweries as well, giving you more opportunites to try out new classes and new breweries.
