Local Love – Naked Bar Soap Co “BYOB” Sessions

Earlier this month I was invited to check out Naked Bar Soap Co and their BYOB Sessions. In this case BYOB does not mean Bring Your Own Bottle/Booze, it means Blend Your Own Bar.

Naked Bar Soap Co is located in College Park and it is just wonderful! The term “naked” means undisguised, blatant, and devoid of concealment. There are no questionable or unrecognizable ingredients in their products.  Their artisan soaps are made with nourishing ingredients such as olive oil, coconut oil, and sustainable palm oil combined with dollops of creamy Shea, rich Cocoa, and exotic Kokum butter scented only with essential oils and no synthetic fragrances.  Simply put their soaps are made with a handful of naturally, gorgeous ingredients. Naked Bar Soap Co. believes great things come in small batches. Crafting soap is therapeutic and holistic all at the same time. They love what they do and it reflects in their creations!

At their “Blend Your Own Bar” custom soap blending sessions guests will customize and blend a one and a half pound batch of their prepared soap batter using essential oils, herbs, and botanicals.  The session will be approximately 60-90 minutes long. All guests will leave with 1 1/2 lbs  of beautifully custom blended soap. They provide all of the necessary materials such as safety goggles, rubber gloves, and aprons. How cool is that?

The cost is $40 per person and you can sign up on their website. They have 3 scheduled for November and 3 for December – just in time to create some one of a kind gifts for your family and friends for the holidays.

During our preview “BYOB” session we made a 1/2 pound of soap and learned all about soap making, Naked Bar Soap Co, and the ladies behind it. For each bar of soap created you get to choose from a variety or mix-ins and then pick a scent for your soap. I tend it have issues with strong smelling soaps, so I went for a nice light grapefruit. For my mix-ins I picked ground oatmeal and marigold which are both good for sensitive skin.

The soap takes 4-6 weeks to “set” so this whole thing is an experiment in patience. I really have to just let it sit there until Thanksgiving? Yup, I sure do! I just keep telling myself that I’ll have a wonderful new soap to get me through the stressful holiday season.
