As much as I love my new job, its a major bummer that I don’t have any vacation time until later in the year. I’m keeping plenty busy, which is great, but summertime just makes me want to travel. To keep myself from going totally insane I’ve been trying to plan some local (and semi-local) staycations. If I can’t get there, have a good time, and get back in one weekend the location doesn’t make the list! Thankfully I have access to a tiny plane and pilot on occasion, so that does help me get a little further away from home.
My first staycation this summer really is a staycation as I will only be traveling 24 miles from home. I’ll be celebrating my birthday a little late this year since our big convention for work starts on my birthday. My mom and I decided that a little staycation would be the perfect belated celebration. We will be spending the weekend at the Hyatt Regency Orlando on I-Drive!
The Hyatt Regency is the perfect place for a “weekend away.” It has 3 pools (one with poolside cabanas), fitness center, a full-service spa, tennis courts, bike rentals, four restaurants, three bars, and a coffee shop. There are also tons of restaurants and things to do on I-Drive that are all within walking distance. They even have a tricked out golf cart that will bring you across the way to Pointe Orlando.
In addition to all the normal fun stuff they offer at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, they have some special things planned for this summer that are definitely geared towards locals.

Summer 2015-The Mermaid Academy

The Mermaid Academy offers children of all ages to play and swim with a vibrant mermaid tail or shark fin in this magical experience, offered Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Grotto Pool. Classes are available at 11:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. for $30 per child. Take the experience home with a collection of fun mermaid tails available at The Spa at Hyatt Regency Orlando. Learn more and reserve your child’s Mermaid Academy experience, and call 407-345-4431 for reservations.
My mom and I won’t be able to take advantage of the wine special, but we will definitely be looking into the Summer Escape special at the spa. And laying by the pool. And enjoying one or two of those beautiful bars.
*Disclosure: Hyatt Regency Orlando is treating me to a staycation at their resort in exchange for a blog post (or two). As always my thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
