Before I get started, can I just mention how much the weather has STUNK here in Florida lately. I am a Floridian and lived here my whole life so I KNOW its going to rain in the summer – but this year has just been ridiculous! So much rain every dang day! Unfortunately, this weekend was no exception.
My mom and I started off our day with breakfast at a local diner and a little bit of vintage shopping before heading out to the Hyatt Regency Orlando for our staycation. I didn’t get a chance to see my mom for my birthday, so this staycation was going to be our belated birthday celebration. We arrived at the hotel a little before 3 pm and our room wasn’t ready yet. It wasn’t a big deal to us because we could leave our things at the bellstand and explore, but the Hyatt wanted to make sure we were happy campers. They took my cell phone number so they could contact me when the room was ready and gave us a card for a complimentary dessert at the B-Line Diner. You could also use it for an in-room movie or appetizer at their two other dining locations. Mom and I LOVE dessert, so we decided to use it right then and there for an afternoon snack. We’d been told our room would be ready in about 20 minutes so that would give us plenty of time.
Upon arriving at the B-Line Diner you are greeted by a huge case of beautiful desserts. After a couple minutes of checking out our options we decided to go with the Key Lime Pie. We were only a few bites into our pie when we got a text that our room was ready. Wow, that was quick! After a quick stop at the front desk we grabbed our bags from the bell stand and went up to our room on the 20th floor – it had an amazing pool view!
The rooms at the Hyatt Regency Orlando really do have everything you need. Comfy beds, fridge, coffee maker, a HUGE bathroom with a TV in the mirror, motion sensor night lights in the room and bathroom, a desk area, cordless phone, tv, and a big closet. Even though I knew about the TV in the bathroom ahead of time and had told my mom, she really didn’t believe me until I went in and turned it on. She got a huge kick out of the fact that I was tall enough to actually watch the tv from INSIDE the shower.
Most of the rest of our evening was spent offsite, but we were welcomed back to the room by a special surprise from the hotel. Mom and I ended out night laying in bed, drinking champagne, and playing on Pinterest. Yup, we are great big dorks.
The next day our plan was to take advantage of our late check out (2 pm) and spend the day by the grotto pool. We checked in at the towel hut just before 10 am and they brought us to our poolside cabana. Talk about heavenly! There were three chairs outside of the cabana to lounge on, plus a big comfy daybed of sorts inside the cabana. The cabana also had a fridge and bar. There was even a button you could push to get a waiter to come over from the bar.
The grotto pool area is huge and has something for everyone! Waterfalls, a kids pool and beach, plenty of lounge chairs, a bar and restaurant, and even a slide. I may have been the only adult on the slide that day, but I enjoyed every last minute of it.
It was a little cloudy out but we were determined to my the most of our day. Just before lunch time it started to rain so we moved inside the cabana and ordered lunch. By the time we finished our coconut shrimp the rain had stopped and we were able to get back outside. We were treated to about 30 minutes of sunshine before the REAL storms rolled in and we were forced to call it a day.
Even though we only traveled about 25 miles from my home, this Staycation was just the break that I needed. The Hyatt is its own little world. Next time I will be checking out one of their amazing restaurants (for more than just pie), visiting the fitness center, and going to the adults only pool. See, more than enough to warrant a second visit!
*Disclosure: I was given a complimentary stay at the Hyatt Regency Orlando in exchange for blog posts and social media coverage. As always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
What a gorgeous hotel! We will definitely need to keep this in mind for our next stay-cation! 🙂
