After I found my amazing lamp for the living room I continued my search for lamps for the rest of my house. I needed them for both bedrooms and my Florida room. Thankfully I scored a beautiful pair of mid-century modern lamps off Offer-Up for just $20. They were the perfect size and shape, but the color was pretty awful. I knew right away that I would be giving them both a brand new color.
I started off by picking a color for the one that would go in my bedroom. I knew I would have to sand the lamp first and thankfully my mom told me about a liquid sander/deglosser that I could. All you do is apply a coat with a rag and let dry. Then repeat with another coat (or two). After about two coats I was ready to start painting.
I made sure to pick a gloss spray paint so that once I had the color on I wouldn’t have to go back over it with a sealer or top coat. I decided to go with three coats of paint just to make sure that I got an even coating and to fill in some of the cracks that the lamp had developed over time. I was SO happy with how it turned out!
For less than $10 I turned my perfect but green lamp into a perfect aqua lamp that matches my bedroom perfectly!
I was so excited with how the lamp for my bedroom turned out that this past weekend I decided to paint the second lamp for my Florida room. The bottle of liquid sander is a pretty good size, so I had more than enough to do the second lamp (and there is still plenty left in the bottle). This time I went with a coral color to match the pillows I have on the couch.
So next time you find something for your house that you love but isn’t the right color, ask yourself “Could I fix this with a can of spray paint?” There’s a good chance the answer is yes!
