Have I mentioned that my bestie buys me the coolest gifts? Well she does! One of the coolest things she’s bought me is this huge tin of vintage buttons. I loved them so much, but knew I had to do something super cool with them. Unfortunately it took awhile for me to find a project that I felt was worthy.

Last week I came across a pin on Pinterest for a super easy DIY vintage button necklace. I had all the supplies I needed, which was a nice short list, so I decide to pull them out and make myself a spiffy necklace. All I needed was the buttons, felt, and my glue gun.

The hardest thing about this project was deciding which buttons to use and what color scheme to work with.  I mean how are you supposed to pick from all these beautiful buttons?

I finally decided to plan my necklace around the aqua and white button in the bottom right of the picture. It was just so fun! It took a little while to decide which buttons to pick to go with it and then a little more time to figure out the placement, but then it was easy peasy from there on out.

Once the buttons were arranged I just had to hot glue them to some white felt. Once I was done making sure the buttons were secure I took a pair of scissors and trimmed away the excess felt.

I was so excited about how everything turned out, but then I realized that I didn’t have a chain to actually make this into a necklace. I dug through my stash in the craft cave and there really was no chain to be found. I’m not much of a jewelry maker so that’s not surprising, but it was still a bummer. After a little more searching I realized that I had more ribbon that any one person should and that it would be perfect for the necklace.

I kinda love how it turned out, especially with how easy it was to make. Its going to make a nice addition to my wardrobe. Now I just have to figure out what to do with the rest of the buttons. Laura sent me a pin for an ice cream made of buttons that I love, but I don’t have enough of two colors to do it.

What would you do with a tin full of vintage buttons?
