Hello and welcome to birthday week!
Since my 37th birthday is on Saturday I decided to have Birthday Week here on the blog. Don’t worry, it won’t be 5 days of only Meghan I promise! I think they it is important to celebrate birthday regardless of age because every day you wake up is a day that should be celebrated.
I lost a dear friend over the weekend that was tragically taken WAY before her time and it made me feel even more strongly about the importance of birthday celebrations. Sure, I may not be 21 anymore and I may be getting closer to 40 than I would like, but I am alive and that is a darn good reason to celebrate. My friend that passed always lived life to the fullest, always had an amazing smile on her face, and made you feel like you’d known each other for ages the very first time you met. I can’t imagine not seeing her again, but I know she would want me (and anyone else out there with a birthday this week) to celebrate!
Each year I come up with a list of things I want to accomplish… 35 in 35, 36 in 36… and well, I never get close to finishing them all. So this year’s list is going to be 10 things. 10 really important, to me, things that I hope to accomplish in my 37th year.
- 1/2 marathon in less then 2.5 hours
- Read 37 books in my 37th year
- Perform 7 random acts of kindness in 1 week
- Finally get my tattoo
- Do volunteer work with a local animal shelter
- Focus on what I have instead of what I don’t
- Travel somewhere that requires my passport
- Grow my blog
- Get my sewing machine fixed and sew more
- Go on a trip with my mom
As you can see nothing on this list is extraordinary, it is all just things that I would love to do/accomplish and things I think would better my life.
What are your goals for the next year?
Happy Birthday week Meghan! I love that you set goals for yourself every year on your birthday. It’s so important to help us grow as individuals and something I’m not great at but need to work on!
I wanted to pass along a link to a dog rescue that my dentist works with. She was just telling me today (as she was cleaning my teeth) that they are always in need of volunteers! https://www.houndhaven.org/
Thanks so much Danielle! I will definitely look into their group 🙂
Birthday weeks are the best, but tinged with sadness for you, sorry for the loss of your friend. When something like that happens it makes you think about your own life. That’s one of my goals the half marathon in under 2.5 hours too. Closest I’ve been is 2:33. Good luck.
