On Sunday I was invited to attend a Best Damn Race blogger event. Nick who runs the Best Damn Race invited bloggers from the area that had participated in this year’s race and blogged about it to come to a little thank you party. The party was held at FitNiche in Hyde Park and was a lot of fun!
We started out the night with a 3 mile run along Bayshore. Even though I was feeling my run from the day before (damn those hills!) I really wanted to head out along Bayshore with the group. Holy crap was it hot! Why did I agree to run at 5 in the afternoon? About a mile in my legs had another idea. Booo. I walked for a bit and then rejoined the group when they were headed back my way. Nick decided was super awesome and hung back with me so I wouldn’t get lost on the way back. It was very nice of him and it gave us a chance to talk more about the race and some potential new stuff for 2014. I can’t tell you what we talked about, but believe me it is SUPER exciting. As soon as I can share with you I will 🙂
Once we got back to the store we had a chance to visit with other bloggers and enjoy some wine (sponsored by FitNiche) and chocolates (sponsored by Ashworth Artisan Chocolate). That definitely made up for the awful run I’d just returned from. I really enjoyed meeting some of the ladies behind the blogs that I read and I also found some new ones to start reading. You would be AMAZED at how many ladies from the Tampa area blog about running!
They did some giveaways (I won a pair of Boston Bill sunglasses) and we all got some pretty awesome goodie bags as well. One of the best things in the goodie bags were $20 gift certificates for FitNiche. I went ahead and spent mine during the party since I’m not local to the store. I was able to pick up 2 flavors of Nuun (which I’ve been wanting to try for awhile), some Sport Beans, and some Gu chomps. I’ve never been one of those runners that brings along snacks when I run, so I thought I would give them a try.
Thanks to Nick from BDR I have an extra goodie bag to give away to one lucky reader! The goodie bag includes a water bottle from Sports Authority, a water bottle from Outspokin Bicycles, a coozie from Milestone Sports, an Artic Ease cryotheray wrap, GU energy gel, a free meal from Fitlife foods, AND a $20 gift certificate for FitNiche!
Just leave a comment below with what you would use your $20 gift certificate for at FitNiche to be entered. I will pick a winner on Friday, July 5th.
If you are interested in signing up for any of the BDR races for 2014 (5k, 10k, or 1/2 marathon), you can save $5 by using code BDRBLOG when you register.
Disclaimer: I paid for my race entry this year and have all ready paid for my entry for 2014. This party was just a thank you to those of us who blogged about the race after the fact. All opinions regarding BDR are my own.Â
That’s awesome Meghan! I would definitely use the gift certificate on the snacks which I’ve never tried while running or a new running tank that isn’t so darn hot! I’ve been wearing these cotton t-shirts that I’ve made into tanks and even they are too hot!!
Yeah, cotton is just ROUGH this time of year. So so hot!
I need some Nuun! So hot out there and I’m a salty sweater 🙂
I can’t wait to try it out. I’m doing a 5k tomorrow morning and I’m definitely bringing it with me. I too am a salty sweater!
Trying to get back into running. Thanks for your blog and for sharing. In would use the gift certifocate at the Fitniche here in Lakeland, where I live, probably to buy a new pair of running socks…. I know there’s a sock monster in my washing machine! Question: what is Nuun?
Eunice
Congrats on getting back into running Eunice! Good socks are a must, especially if the sock monster has been eating yours! 🙂 Nuun is a hydration tablet (think Gatorade, but not so horrible). You just drop it into a bottle and go! I’ve heard great things about it and can’t wait to try it out.
Nuun are sugar free electrolyte tabs which you can dissolve in water. I like them because they’re easy on my tummy during long runs.
Hey girl. Keep blogging ; )
Loved reading it. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Thanks Cinthya! Hope to see you again at BDR 2014 🙂
Oh….and I would use the $20 towards some new kicks. Mama needs a new pair of shoes!
BDR was the first race I ever ran! I am running it again next year. I can’t wait! I am wanting to try out new socks so that is what I would spend the money on.
That is awesome Shannon! New socks are always fun and would come in handy for BDR 2014 🙂
I could use the gift certificate for a new pair of shoes (to train for the 2014 BDR). Loved the half last year and already registered for next year. Very cool that they held this event for bloggers!
I am doing the BDR 1/2 in 2014 as well. I did the 10k this year and loved it!
Hi Meghan, Love your blog especially your Bio about yourself you are so honest . I like that . I read other people blog they just write their so many accomplishments and not any of their problems or issues .
Thank you so much Jackie! I like to keep it real 🙂 tee hee
Since I’m starting marathon training again, I would definitely use the gift certificate for a new pair of shoes. 🙂
Great idea Bridget! They have a lot of shoes to choose from too 🙂
I loooooove nuun! The pink lemonade & lemon tea are in my run kit. Which flavored did you went up with?
Which nuun flavors did you get? I have pink lemonade & lemon tea, but I’m always hunting for new flavors. 😉
I got Cherry Limeade and Citrus Twist. I’ll let you know how they are 🙂
Awesome! Those were two I wanted to order but I needed a flavor review first. 😉
Getting back into running again–slowly but surely!
A mile is a mile Faith! Good luck with the running 🙂
Sounds great! I have the same experience if I run after work on Bayshore. I do the running club at Fitniche at Wiregrass but I really want to try the Hyde Park runs. The goodie bag sounds good. I would use the certificate to get running socks for my husband, who is my fellow partner in crime (in running!).
Such a good running buddy/wife you are 🙂
I would go to Fitniche to get a new pair of Brooks Ghosts or Mizunos!! The $20 certificate would definitely help out!
I’ve been wanting to try out a pair of Brooks myself!
If you get some chocolate and wine you are going to be a lot more inclined to finish your race quickly:)
