As this holiday week gets rolling I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m thankful for. I’ve been having a hard time as of late, so sitting down and focusing on the good is helping to improve my state of mind. You’ve got to look at the glass as half full right? So each day this week I’m going to share some things that I’m thankful for. A personal reminder to myself that even when the going gets tough, we all still have plenty of things to be thankful for.
At the top of this list is my parents. I’m very lucky to have two of the best parents in the world. If you’ve ever met them then you know what I’m talking about.
My mother is my best friend and my rock. I know I’ve made some mistakes in my life and sometimes they have impacted our relationship, but when push comes to shove my mom is ALWAYS there for me. She is the most thoughtful, caring, and creative person I know. She is the glue that hold our family together. I constantly find myself wondering how I ended up with such an amazing person as my mom.
My dad is my daddy. He always ends conversations with I love you, he has way better legs than I do, he still holds my hand in public, rarely ever calls me by my name, and I know that he loves me more than anything. He took me to my first basketball game, he inspired my love of football (Go Gators), and he’s a great big goofball. No matter what happens, I know that he will always be there for me.
Since my parents have been divorced for over 15 years now we have a very weird family dynamic. Try explaining to people that don’t know you how you are spending the holidays with both of your parents, together, at your mom’s house. It was even weirder when they both had significant others! But it is what it is and I am SO thankful that I have them in my life. However weird it may seem to the outside world.
