Running Into Fall

This week is the official start of fall (even though it isn’t feeling like fall here yet), and it also means that race season is about to kick into high gear. I’ve got a lot of races on my plate for the rest of 2016 and I really need to get my butt in gear. I’ve had my “big” races planned for awhile now and was really hoping to be super prepared for them this year. But unfortunately life has gotten in the way, a very common occurrence, and I feel more than a bit under prepared.

Prepared or not I’ve got a packed scheduled and I just need to get myself in the right place mentally to tackle these races. I’ve done it before so I can do it again. Right?

So where am I headed this fall to race?

September 25 – Global Energy 10k: Orlando, FL

Local Love: Global Energy Race benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank

This one was a last minute addition to my scheduled because a) I need to get my butt in gear and b) I was able to get a REALLY good deal on Groupon for this race. For each kilometer completed by each participant, Bimbo Bakeries USA will donate two slices of bread to a local Feeding America food bank – one loaf of bread per completed 10K. Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is the participating charitable partner in Orlando so that makes this race even more important. My goal for this race? Finish!

November 5-6 – Rock ’N Roll Savannah ½ marathon, 5k, and 1 mile: Savannah, GA

Running Into Fall

I’m headed back to Savannah for the 2nd year in a row and I’m super excited. I’m hoping the weather will behave this year (fingers crossed for cool temps) since I have 3 races over 2 days. Originally I had just signed up for 2 of the races, but then I got an email promising pie if I did both of the Sunday races and I caved. How can you say no to your own peach pie? And really, what is another mile after you’ve already done 16.2?

November 12-13 – Rock ‘N Roll Las Vegas 5k and ½ marathon: Las Vegas, NV

Running Into Fall

Las Vegas was just way too much fun last year not to head back again this year. I refuse to be the only person I know NOT doing the 5k race on Saturday, so I will be doing that on Saturday and the ½ marathon on Sunday. And just because this trip isn’t awesome enough already, we decided to make use of our Rock ‘N Roll Runner Perks and pick up some tickets to see Britney Spears on Friday night. Oh yeah, we are gonna be ‘those girls” for a night.

December 3-4 – Rock ‘N Roll San Antonio 10k and ½ marathon: San Antonio, TX

Running Into Fall

I think I may be most excited about my trip to San Antonio. I’ve only heard great things about San Antonio and a bunch of runner friends are doing the races as well, so it should be a great time. I’ve also got a sweet place to stay right across from The Alamo thanks to my friends at Springhill Suites, so we have a nice place to crash at the end of the day.

I have plenty of races scheduled for 2017 (Bring on Best Damn Race!), but I will save that for another post.

**Don’t forget that you can save $15 off your Rock N Roll Marathon Series registration (some exclusions) with code MEGHANONTHEMOVE! Just a little extra motivation to get you signed up for some races 🙂
