When I first visited Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream in Audubon Park I fell in love. They have AMAZING ice cream! So I was super excited when I worked with Kelly and was able to set up a small tasting for a group of lady bloggers. Hooray ice cream!
Kelly and Scott, a nurse and accountant, moved to Orlando five years ago and realized that Orlando was lacking in the homemade ice cream department. They started making ice cream in their home and sold it at farmer’s markets around the area. That lead to an ice cream truck in March of last year and a shop in July.
They have 80-90 different flavors and you can find 24 of them in the shop at any given time. They have your basics like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and mint chocolate chip but are better known for their more decadent flavors like Mexican Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie, and Maple Bourbon Bacon.
During our visit we were able to try a flight of four flavors. A flight is four mini waffle bowls each with a different flavor of ice cream. We tried Blondie, Mexican Chocolate, Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie, and Maple Bourbon Bacon. The Mexican Chocolate is currently their #1 flavor and the Maple Bourbon Bacon was actually something that they created especially for a wedding reception.
I had a really hard time picking my favorite from the four flavors, because they were all amazing, but I have to say that the Mexican Chocolate really was my favorite.
These flights are always available in the shop and are $8.25. They are the perfect way to try out a few of their amazing flavors. Kelly said they are great to share on a date night, but I definitely wouldn’t want to share my flight!
They use all natural ingredients and use local ones if they can. Kelly and Scott are super excited about blueberry season and are already thinking up new flavors using blueberries from local farms.
In addition to being available for outside events and visits from their ice cream truck, they also have a small party room available. If that doesn’t work out you can even rent out the whole shop during their off hours. We also learned during out visit that soon they will be offering ice cream cookie sandwiches and ice cream cakes. They brought in a pastry chef about six months ago and she’s been working hard to make this a reality.
So if you are looking for some amazing ice cream made by some awesome folks, definitely head over to Kelly’s Homemade Ice Cream. I recommend getting a flight, and not sharing it, so that you can really experience all they have to offer!
