Over the last year, my running habits have been all over the place. That all changes today! Today I start training for my next half marathon!
I have run 18 half marathons and even though that isn’t “my distance” anymore, I just can’t stop at 18. My plan is to round it out and a nice even 20. My next half marathon will be the Best Damn Race Half in Safety Harbor, FL in October. This is one of my favorite races EVER and I haven’t done the half distance in a long time. And because nothing is ever “easy” when it comes to my plans, my sole sister Jenn talked me into doing the Triple Challenge in Safety Harbor – 5k and 10k on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday. No big deal right? LOL.

I am very lucky that Jenn is not only an amazing running buddy and friend, but also one of the most supportive people I know. I love knowing that when I’m having a particularly hard day or don’t want to run, that I can reach out to her and she will get me going.
Since the half is the distance I’m most worried about, I’ve come up with a training plan that I am going to follow up until the race. By training for the half, I will also get in the training I need for the 5k and 10k. I’ll be doing two short runs during the week and one longer run on the weeks. I even have a couple of friends locally that are going to do the long runs with me on the weekends.

Today’s first run on the schedule was 1.5 miles. It doesn’t sound like much, but my body was definitely reminding me that I needed some practice. I followed my intervals and was able to stick to them for the entire distance. It is already getting super hot here in Florida, so I’m going to have to run in the mornings so I don’t die. Thankfully the pup has me up pretty early every day, so that will help get me out of the door.
