If you know me in real life then you probably know two very important facts about me:
1. I LOVE TACOS!
2. I am a creature of habit (especially with food)
I love food. I love trying new foods. I love trying new restaurants. But when I find something I like, I tend to stick with it. For instance, tacos at Tijuana Flats. I love them. And pretty much every single Tuesday (hooray for Tijuana Tuesday) I order the exact same thing – 2 hard beef tacos with lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and cheese (power lite) with a side of guac and I also grab two to-go cups of Smack my Sweet Ass and Call Me Sally sauce (one for each taco). Every once in awhile I will change things up and get salsa instead of guac, but not very often. Why mess with a good thing right?
So when I was invited to attend a Back to School bash at Tijuana Flats and try some things I hadn’t had before, I jumped at the chance. I joined some fellow bloggers and Yelp Elite for a night of fun, food, and tacos! (I promise they were NEW tacos)
We started off the evening with the Tijuana Trio (starter) – Chips, salsa, queso, & guacamole. Yum yum yum. I could have just eaten this and been a happy camper, but when Tijuana Flats invites you for an event there is always TONS of good food to try.
Next up were the Flautas – Flour tortillas lightly fried with cheese, chicken and beef combination, served with queso, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream. I tried one of each and I think the chicken was my favorite. I am a fan of hand held food and anything they serve with queso and guac to dip it in makes it that much better!
We followed that up with the Bangin’ Chicken Burrito – Crispy chicken tossed in our Smack My Ass Bangin’ Chicken sauce , grilled onions, grilled green peppers, tomatoes, cheese and ranch dressing. I really liked this burrito, but the Smack My Ass Bangin’ Chicken sauce was just too spicy for me. I’m a great big wuss when it comes to spicy things, which is part of the reason I like Tijuana Flats so much. Their hot sauce bar means that you can make your dish as spicy, or not, as you like.
The last entree we tried was the blackened chicken soft taco. Yum yum yum. I never get soft tacos there and I think I’ve had chicken tacos once, and it wasn’t blackened. The only thing that kept it from being perfect was the lack of my favorite sauce. Yes, I could have gotten up and gotten some from the hot sauce bar but the tasty sangria and belly full of food kept me seated . Did you know that Tijuana Flats has sangria? Well they do and its pretty darn delicious! And during their daily happy hour (Monday through Friday from 4pm – 7pm) you can get it for just $3.
And just when we thought we would explode from all the tasty food, they brought out dessert. Yup, dessert. We ended the evening with Cookie Dough Flautas – “The Original” Chocolate chip cookie dough loaded in a flour tortilla, lightly fried and topped with powdered sugar and served with a side of chocolate syrup. Holy cow this was amazing. If you are a lover of cookie dough then you NEED to try this. Whomever thought to stick cookie dough in a tortilla and fry it should be given an award or something.
I loved being able to try some new items at Tijuana Flats but I have to be honest… every Tuesday I’ve been there since I’ve still gotten my “usual.” I know I know, change things up Meghan! I will. Eventually. Maybe, one day.
Thanks to Tijuana Flats for inviting me out to this great event!
When my parents visit me in Florida, we always go to Tijuana Flat’s. The salsa is fresh and delicious.
