Yesterday was the first day of the Runner’s World Summer Run Streak!
I was at my mom’s house Sunday & Monday, so it took a little extra effort to get myself up Monday morning to run. I had done 2.5 on Sunday, so I decided to just do the shorter loop (which was about 1.25 miles) since I knew we had a busy day ahead of us. It wasn’t as cool as the morning before when it was just 60 degrees when I headed out (which was AWESOME!), but it was still pretty nice. Unfortunately, that is where the “fun” part of this story ends. *Just an FYI, this may be TMI for some people… but really, I’m keeping things tame.
About a quarter of a mile in my stomach started to bother me. I didn’t really think much of it at first, but with every step I took it got worse and worse. I stopped running and started walking once I realized that I needed to go to the bathroom. Like NOW. I knew there was a restroom at about the one mile mark (my mom leaves in a golf community and it was on one of the cart paths), so I just focused on getting there. Imagine my surprise when I got there and it was locked! I about cried. Thankfully I had my phone and called my mom to come get me. I felt a little silly since I was less than a 1/4 of a mile from her house, but I knew if I had to keep moving I wouldn’t make it. She said she would be right there and hung up.
As I was waiting I felt like it was taking her way longer than it should have, but I wasn’t sure since all I could focus on was not going to the bathroom on the side of the road. Why did my body chose to do this TODAY? I’d never had a problem like this before. She finally showed up and zoomed me back to the house. When we pulled up my grandpa was in the driveway looking at the front of my car (which was parked in the driveway). I asked my mom what he was doing and she told me not to worry about it and go. As I was running into the house I saw the problem… my mom had hit my car. She was in such a rush to get to me that she totally forgot that my car was parked behind her and she backed right into it. I was SO upset! I couldn’t believe she had hit my car! Definitely not the start to my holiday that I was expecting.
Once I was able to calm down (I think my potty situation had me so upset that I had a hard time NOT being upset about my car) I realized that she was just in “mom mode” trying to get to me and just didn’t think about it when she hopped in her car. It was all just a really unfortunate, and poorly timed, accident. Unfortunately I’ll have to get a new bumper and when I went out to look at the car again later I realized that the hood of the car isn’t sitting right either. Sigh.
But, the point of the story here is that I RAN yesterday and started my streak! Too bad it started off with a literal BANG.
