Most years the only thing I do with regards to Derby Day is check out all the cute outfits on Instagram and Twitter. But this year I was invited to a Derby Day party, so I get to plan out my own outfit!
If I’m going to be honest, the only reason I’m going to this Derby Day party is because it gives me an excuse to dress up and hang out with my friends. I’m not even remotely interested in watching some tiny dudes on horses. Sorry Derby Day fanatics, but its true.
I kept going back and forth about what I wanted to wear for Derby Day. I knew it needed to be a dress and some form of head wear, but I kept going back out forth about style. I finally decided to just go with what I know – vintage. So I pulled out my 1950s style cherry dress and got to work putting my outfit together.
A couple of years ago I bought some fabulous shiny red pumps on Amazon, so I knew I had to wear those. I paired them with a pair of sheer dot anklets from Berkshire. Pairing these with my pumps just made me feel super girly!
I’m not one to stop at just matching footwear, so I started pulling out the rest of the accessories that would complete my outfit. A vintage red clutch, vintage style white sunnies, and a big red flower for my hair. I may add to the flower to give the outfit a little more flair, but that is a story for another day.
Now I just have to wait for derby day to get here so that I can show off my outfit. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely be posting pictures of the finished outfit. If its not on Instagram it didn’t happen right?
