When I moved into my house 2 years ago I was gifted three wonderful pink lawn flamingos. These three have been hanging out in my front yard ever since. When I was taking them down, for safe keeping, before Hurricane Irma I realized that one of them had faded a lot. Instead of retiring this fella I decided to give him new life – as a Halloween decoration.
With just some paint, hot glue gun, and a strip of feather boa I was able to turn this lackluster flamingo into a super creepy vulture for Halloween. I was able to do the whole project in an afternoon.
I started out by painting the head and neck a dark red. I used some craft paint that I had on hand. For the black body I decided to use spray paint in order to give it a shiny coat and to make sure the paint got into the detail on the wings.
Once the paint was dry I used a stiff brush to add some add paint on the detail of the wings to really make them pop. I even dug out some red rhinestones to make the eyes super creepy.
The last thing was to add the feather boa around the neck of the bird. It is amazing what a little bit of paint and some feather can do to complete transform something.
And there you have it – a super creepy flamingo vulture to add to the yard this Halloween. I will be putting mine out with his skelemingo buddies when I get back from my trip.
What kind of paint did you use? I want to do this but would prefer not to use spray paint. Thanks!
I used regular craft paint for the face and black spray paint for the body. You could use craft paint for the whole thing, but I’d suggest using some sort of sealer over it if its going to be outside.
