While in Fort Lauderdale last month I picked up a killer dress that I plan to wear to work on Halloween. I decided that I needed some sparkly gold shoes to go with the dress. Everything I found either wasn’t exactly what I wanted or wasn’t my size. I finally realized that I just needed to make some myself. To Pinterest we go!
Most of the DIY instructions for glitter shoes said the same thing – mix the glitter INTO the mod podge and then paint it on. Everything I read said this was the easiest to do and helped the glitter to stay on. Sounds easy enough to me.
I bought a pair of pretty comfy black pumps at Goodwill. Since I knew I was going to be wearing them to work they needed to be comfy and not too tall. I was hoping to find a lighter color, but this was just going to have to do. I had some mod podge at home and picked up a pack of various gold glitters on clearance at the craft store.
I mixed three different gold glitter together and added them to the mod podge. They all were different size glitters and I thought that would cover better. I put the mod podge in a plastic container with a lid so that I could close it up after each coat. I did 3 lights coats, then let it dry over night and then did a 4th coat of just mod podge to hopefully seal it a little more.
I was SO happy with how the shoes turned out! You’d have no idea that they were originally black and they are SO sparkly. I wore them around the house for a bit and so far I’m not losing glitter all over the place. Now I kinda want to make glitter shoes in all sorts of fun colors. I mean it would be a cheap and fun addition to my shoe collection right?
