Last week I was getting the house ready for some weekend visitors when I decided that I needed a new Halloween centerpiece for the dining room table. I had plenty I could have used, but I felt that I needed something NEW for the new house. Makes sense right?
So at 9 pm on a Wednesday night I decided to dig through my Halloween and craft supplies to see what I had. I came up with three things and I was able to make a super quick and easy centerpiece. I started with a faux pumpkin (that I had gotten on sale last year for super cheap), a bunch of Halloween flowers (again, super cheap after Halloween find), and a pumpkin carving kit (that I bought at Goodwill for 25 cents).
I started out buy cutting a hole in the top of the pumpkin. I made the hole just big enough that I could stick the bunch of flowers in and a) the bottom of the stems would hit the bottom of the pumpkin and b) the flowers would fit in pretty snug. Once the hole was cut and I tested it to make sure the flowers would fit I “fluffed” the bunch of flowers. I ended up cutting out a section I didn’t like, but overall it was perfect. I then ran some glue around the edge of the hole, shoved the flowers in, and let the dry over night.
I kept thinking about what I else I wanted to do to it and just figured I’d add some ribbon and call it good. Then the next night I sat down to work on it and a light bulb went off – polka dots! But how to add them? Then I remembered the adhesive backed glitter vinyl that I bought when it was on sale at Joanns. I broke out my circle punch and prayed it would cut it. It did! So I cut circles in two sized and put them all over the pumpkin.
In the end I was really excited about how the whole thing turned out. It was cheap, it was easy, and it looked great in the middle of my dining room table. Too bad I sold the table yesterday and now have nowhere for the centerpiece. Oh well, at least I have it for the next table.
