Running makes it on the list of things I’m thankful for for so many reasons.
Running gave me a purpose when I was going through a rough time.
Running showed me what my body is capable of.
Running took me to new places.
But most of all, running brought so many amazing people into my life.
I now have friends all over the world that enjoy this crazy pastime of mine. I’ve met people that I never would have met if it were for running and races. I have people to travel with, to visit, and run races with. We all share a love of running and the running community.
I met my sole mate Jennifer when I was an ambassador for one race, and now we are both ambassadors for 3 races series. We travel to Savannah together twice a year, meet up for other races in-between, and make time to do non-running related things on occasion too. The only thing wrong with our wonderful running relationship is the 2 hour drive that separates us.
My Best Damn Race ambassador group is my running family. I’ve known some of these people for over 5 years now and I love getting to see them at the various BDR races throughout the year. These crazy weirdos GET ME and for that I am super thankful. I can’t wait until the BDR series starts up in January!
And of course I have all of my local running friends that I see at Ten10 Run Club and races here around Orlando. Sometimes I even get to see them at out of state races as well. And sometimes these local folks are the only reason I lace up my shoes and hit the road. The promise of beer with my running crew can get me up off the couch most days.
Lastly, I’m thankful for my friend Karen who encouraged me 7 years ago to try running and got me to sign up for my very first half marathon. I really thought it would be a “one and done” type scenario, but here I am just a couple weeks away from completely my 19th half marathon. Thanks chica for convincing me that even a Meghan can be a runner 🙂
