Yesterday my friend and I headed to Tampa for the inaugural Cigar City Brewing Tampa River (Fun) Run along Tampa’s new Riverwalk. The main draw? A bottle opener medal and Cigar City beer at the end. Sounds like a great way to start a Sunday right?
The ran started at The Pier at Cotanchobee Park on the Tampa Riverwalk, so we were right on the water. Then we ran towards Downtown on the Riverwalk, passing the Marriott Waterside, Sail Pavilion, Tampa Convention Center, USF Park, Macdill Park, the newly completed Kennedy Over Water Segment, and then to Curtis Hixon Park where we turned around to go back to the Pier. The run was just around 2 miles.
The weather has been BEAUTIFUL in Florida the last few days and yesterday was no exception. It was around 73 degrees and there was a great breeze coming off the water. It was the perfect temp for a 2 mile run along the river. I hadn’t been to Tampa’s new Riverwalk yet, so this was a great way to see it.
There wasn’t a lot of pre and post race activities, but we got a shirt at the start of the run, a medal when we finished, and then a beer. Cigar City was the main sponsor so of course they have their beers available, along with a few other choices including cider (hooray). I was happy there was cider but bummed that it wasn’t Cigar City cider. Maybe next year guys?
A saw a couple Tampa friends/bloggers before and during the race which was fun. Its always great to see these folks at different races. I don’t do a lot of Tampa races so its fun to actually know people there!
After the race we headed to Ybor City for some yummy Cuban Sandwiches from La Segunda Central Bakery which we took with us to enjoy at Cigar City Cider & Mead. Cuban sandwiches and cider are a GREAT post-run lunch. We wandered around Ybor for awhile for getting back in the car to head home. It was a great day in Tampa and a super fun way to start what is going to be a super crazy busy May.

I guess we’re even. I came to O-town and didn’t call you, and now you came to Tampa and I didn’t get a heads up.
I call a truce.
Don’t worry. I still love ya.
Ha ha – truce it is then!
I feel ya on the super busy May.
If you ever see it, you have to try the Apple Pie Cider by Cigar City. I just love that brewery!
I have had the Apple Pie Cider and I LOVE IT!
