On Friday I, along with my buddy Karen, was lucky enough to attend the Practically Perfect Preview of the new Disney movie Saving Mr. Banks at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We were both very excited about getting to see the movie and attend a special sneak peak!
We were able to check in for the event around 7:45 pm and the movie didn’t start until 9 pm. We had just enough time to go over and check out the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing lights. I had only seen them once before and Karen had only seen them while running through the park during the Wine and Dine 1/2 marathon, so we were both looking forward to seeing them again. We were not disappointed!
While we were looking at the lights we noticed that we could get our picture with Santa Goofy. Being the big kids that we are, we immediately hopped in line. Not only did we get a great picture with Santa Goofy, Karen got to dance with him as well!
After our photo op with Santa Goofy we went over to the Premiere Theater for the movie. They had popcorn, soda, and water as soon as we arrived, along with a Saving Mr. Banks photo op. We got out picture taken, grabbed our snacks, and then headed to find some seats.
Before the movie they did some Mary Poppins trivia and gave away the Saving Mr. Banks soundtrack, the 50th anniversary Mary Poppins BluRay, and even a Saving Mr Banks umbrella. Next thing we knew the previews were over and the movie was about to start.
This movie was AMAZING!
You need to know that this isn’t your normal super happy Disney movie. First off, it is rated PG-13 and it is NOT animated. It is the story and how the movie Mary Poppins came to be. It was the story of P.L. Travers and her Mary Poppins books. When they tell you to bring a hanky, they weren’t kidding. I won’t say anymore for risk of accidentally posting a spoiler, but do yourself a favor and see this movie when it comes out on December 20th. It isn’t a kids movie (which is partially why I liked it so much), but I think everyone else will really enjoy it.
The acting was spectacular (Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson DEFINITELY deserve a boat load of awards), the story was great, and it was just an all around fantastic film. Thank you so much to the Disney Parks Blog for this amazing event!
After the movie we were taken over to the Great Movie Ride (aka the chinese theater) for our last photo op of the night with either Mary Poppins and the dancing penguins or Bert and the chimney sweeps. We decided to go with Bert and the chimney sweeps and ended up with a great shot!
We really enjoyed the event and I’m definitely looking forward to what meetups they have planned for 2014 (they did say there would be even more in 2014). Maybe a meetup for the premiere of Maleficent? Now that would be awesome!

Love the ears btw 🙂 When I went to see the lights, the line for Santa Goofy was insane so we didn’t get a picture. Maybe next time.
We lucked out that the line wasn’t too long and we had a little time to spare! Definitely go see the movie 🙂
I bought the ears at Downtown Disney’s World of Disney Shop (Marketplace area). We’re still on the hunt for the green holiday ears!
