Restaurant Review: Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen

Recently I had the opportunity to try out Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen in Winter Park. Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen is a café, not just a coffee shop.  They offer coffee and espresso beverages microroasted on-site, paired with farm-to-table cuisine. More than a coffee shop, the cafés offer delicious breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch (in select locations) – as well as a hand-selected beer and wines.

Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen goes the extra mile and strives to create a menu full of exciting farm-to-table choices. Some dishes even boast 100% farm-to-table ingredients. They do their best to use as many local ingredients in their dishes, but sometimes do have to source certain items from out of town locations. In addition to a wide variety of coffee drinks, Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen cafes also offer a premium selection of Beer and Wine any time of the day.

Barnie’s has limited seating inside, but a ton of outdoor seating. All the tables are covered and some of them are even in a courtyard out back. They were busy when we arrived so we decided to sit outside where things were a little quieter and less hectic. Even though we were outside the staff was on point and we never felt neglected. I am not a huge coffee drinker, so I asked our server to recommend a sweet coffee drink. She said they could do a latte or mocha and add a variety of flavored syrups to them. Once she mentioned pumpkin I was sold! I had the pumpkin mocha and it was amazing. I think I’ll try it iced next time since it was so hot out, but it made my brain think of fall so that was okay.

They serve breakfast and lunch everyday, along with dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and a fabulous Sunday brunch. During our visit we joined them for their Sunday brunch. Their brunch menu includes a first course (which is appetizer sized and served with a fresh baked croissant) and a second course (which is the main meal). You can also upgrade your brunch to include sparkling or still wine. We decided to have wine with our brunch and were happy to hear that you could chose one of their Sparkling Wine Cocktails to have with your meal.

These drinks were like nothing i’d had before. They start off with a frozen ice cube like base for the drink which includes all of the extra flavors of the cocktail and then they top it with sparkling wine. The manager suggested letting the drink sit for a bit before enjoying. As the frozen portion of the drink melts the flavors in the drink change. It was really neat to see how the drink tasted differently at various times throughout our meal. I had the Ginger Ruby Red and my friend had the Watermelon & Mint. They were a very refreshing choice for a summertime meal.

For our meals we started out the Tomato & Watermelon Salad and the Greek Yogurt Parfait. Both were so fresh and delicious! And presentation was amazing. You don’t go in expecting things to be so complex and beautiful as they were. You need to throw out any previous notions you had about the “old Barnie’s” before you go in. You will be pleasantly surprised!

For the second course we went with two very different choices – I got the Seasonal Quiche (which had potatoes, roasted tomatoes, and goat cheese) with fresh fruit and my friend got the BCK “Benedict” that was topped with CRAB. Holy yum! My friend Andi from Yelp Orlando suggested getting the quiche and it was a great recommendation. I think my favorite thing was that it was crustless. Don’t get me wrong I love a good crust, but the lack of crust just made it seem that much fresher and lighter. Does that make sense?

We really enjoyed our brunch at Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen. At the end of the meal we were already planning to come back with a group of ladies to try out dinner one night. We took a look at the menu and everything just looked so good! We will definitely be back.

*Disclosure: My meal at Barnie’s CoffeeKitchen was complimentary in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.
