Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon: Fun Times in Savannah

One of the best things about traveling to Savannah for the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon, or any race, is that there is so many great things to do, see, and eat while you are there! Plus, running 13.1 miles makes you feel a whole lot better about all the eating that you are going to do 🙂

Our first stop of the weekend was at Vinny Van Go Go’s for pizza and beer. This is a Savannah staple that I hadn’t had a chance to check out yet, so it was perfect. In addition to great pizza they also have a great selection of local beers on draft. You can chose from super huge slices or create your own whole pie. Just make sure to bring your cash because its the only payment option available.

I like being well caffeinated and Savannah is a great place to do that. So on our way back to the hotel I had to make my first (of multiple) stops at The Coffee Fox for some yummy coffee. Since it was getting a little warm out I decided to go with the iced Horchata Latte. It was so yummy that I stuck with it for the rest of the weekend. Yum.

Dinner that night was at Treylor Park to do some carb loading! This is one of Jenn’s favorite places, so we had to check it out. We showed up during “Power Hour” which means 1/2 price draft beer – woo hoo! I was able to try out some new to me Southern brews for cheap which is always a plus. I also had the Shrimp n Grits tacos which were amazing. They have some pretty creative takes on Southern staples along with a great cocktail and beer menu.

Saturday was race day and I think one of the things that got me through those 13.1 miles was thinking about brunch at The Ordinary Pub. Brunch at The Ordinary Pub has become sort of a tradition when we travel to Savannah for races. Good food, great services, and bottomless mimosas make this a GREAT post race race stop. This year we even had time to shower and change before heading to brunch. Hooray for non-stinky diners!

We spent the rest of the afternoon visiting some of our favorite spots along Broughton Street include Nourish, Savannah Bee Company, and Leopold’s Ice Cream. Leopold’s always has a line, but it is SO worth the wait. During April one of their monthly flavors was Thin Mint Cookies and Cream. Oh. Em. Gee. This may have been one of the tastiest things I ate all weekend.

Our Saturday Girls Night Included drinks at Rocks on the Roof at the The Bohemian Hotel (with amazing views of the water) and appetizers at The Olde Pink House. We had tried to get reservations for dinner at The Olde Pink House but weren’t able to. Instead we took our chances and walked in. Thankfully it was only a 30 minutes wait, which didn’t even happen because 3 seats opened up at the bar. We decided to go the appetizer route since we weren’t super hungry and wanted to try a few things. We had fried oysters, fried green tomatoes, and a cheese plate – it was all amazing!

Before heading out of town and back to reality, Jenn and I stopped at The Public Kitchen for brunch/lunch. This was a new spot for us, so it was a great stop for our last meal. One thing to keep in mind if you are doing brunch on Sundays in Savannah is that they don’t serve alcohol until after 12:30 pm. We had done the “real” brunch thing the day before, so that wasn’t an issue for us. I tried out one of their breakfast sandwiches and left a happy, and full, camper.

It was a great race weekend filled with a lot of firsts, yummy eats, and time with my friends. Oh, and that whole race thing. Just another reason that you should check out the Publix Savannah Women’s Half Marathon with me next year 🙂
