Cricut Creations: Recycled Project Life Cards

One of the things I was most excited about when I got my Cricut Explore is that I would be able to make all sorts of fun stuff for my Project Life album (aka how I scrapbook). Having my Cricut sitting on the dining room table causes me to get crafty at the most random times. It also makes me think about crafting with random things. Like the super cute Graze box that came in the mail right before Easter.

Graze sends themed boxes around the holidays and this month was no exception. Check out these cute Easter themed boxes!

I decided that I would use the Graze boxes to make some cards for my Easter week Project Life. I mean how could I not make something out of these super cute boxes?!

First I I had to turn the box into something I could put on the mat and run through the Cricut. Thankfully the Graze box isn’t glued or held together with tape so I was able to take the box apart and just have one big piece.

I then cut off the front and the back of the box. I hadn’t even realized there was a cute field of flowers hiding under the tasty snacks! I ended up with two pieces of cardboard that were roughly 6″x9″.

I opened up the Cricut Design Studio and imported a super cute SVG file from Shawna Clingerman (along with a paw print, just because). The Cricut Explore has a dial where you can adjust for what type of material you are cutting. The box was thicker than poster board but not as thick as cardboard, so I used the Custom setting so that I could pick something close to the weight of what I was working with.

*Helpful hint: I had a hard time getting the box to stick to the mat. I think it was because the box is coated with something to keep it safe during shipping. It got through cutting out one of the cards before it unstuck. I suggest using a little scotch tape around the edges to make sure the box pieces stay put.

Ta-da! How cute is this? Plus, I can use the letters it cut out of the card on another project.

I love reusing things and this is a perfect example of how you can take something that might otherwise land in the trash and incorporate it into a craft project. Ever since I did this I keep looking at boxes and packaging and thinking “What else can I make with this?”

Adorable! I keep toying with the idea of getting a Cricut. I always seem to talk myself out of it, and then I find myself needing one. Decisions, decisions.
