With my cruise less than a month away (how it August almost over??) I’ve been thinking more and more about what we are going to do on the cruise. I’m definitely looking forward to relaxing, spending time with my mom, and of course the food and drinks. But even though I’ll be on vacation I still want to stay on track with my healthy habits as much as possible. So today I’m sharing 5 easy things you can do on a cruise, or any vacation, to stay on track!
1. Eat a hearty breakfast
With so many food options on a cruise, it is easy to overeat and eat at weird times of day. If you start your day with a healthy and hearty breakfast it will help to keep yourself on a more regular schedule. Skip the breakfast buffet that include a lot of things you might not usually eat for breakfast. Eating in the dining room will help you to make better choices. Plus its a lot less crowded and you won’t have to serve yourself.
2. Pack workout clothes
I know this sounds like a no brainer, but think about it… if every morning when you go to get dressed you see those workout clothes staring at you you will be more likely to put them on for a couple laps around the track.
3. Treat yourself to a class
Cruise ships, most of them at least, have a pretty awesome gym and a track for running or walking. But did you know that they also offer group classes? Everything from yoga to indoor cycling is available. Yes this classes are an extra fee, but you are on vacation – why not treat yourself to something that is good for you? I don’t know about you, but yoga at sea sounds pretty darn fabulous to me.
4. Eat things you really like
With so many food options on a cruise it is SO EASY to overeat, and half of the time it is stuff that you don’t even really like that much. Yes, cruises are a great place to try new things but you don’t have to try everything. Try and stick to things that you really enjoy instead of wasting your calories and meal time on the “okay” stuff. I absolutely LOVE seafood, so I will be sticking to mostly that on my upcoming cruise. But I’ll definitely be having a sweet treat here and there. It is all about balance.
5. Take the stairs
This one has two benefits – one of course is that taking the stairs is good for you and will burn off some of those extra calories. The other is that at some of the busier times of day you can wait quite awhile for an elevator to arrive. Consider taking the stairs instead of standing around waiting for an elevator. Burning a couple extra calories before sitting down to a big dinner is never a bad thing.
So there ya have it – 5 simple tips that can help you stay on track while on your cruise without taking away your relaxation and fun times.
